Lactation Counselling

Are you a mother who has just given birth to her baby? Are you wondering how you are going to nurse your toddler in the coming months? The experience of breastfeeding is a special experience for the mother. It is a very important activity for two reasons mainly. One is the nutritional aspect and the psychological aspect. Mother’s milk is the best food a baby can have and it is critical for the baby’s health during its early stages. Also, the bonding that develops between the mother and the baby during breastfeeding is special and cannot be achieved in any other way

Lactation Basics

The first time you hold your baby is a great time to start breastfeeding it. Don’t worry if the baby seems to have trouble staying on your nipple. Breastfeeding needs a lot of patience and practice. If you are not sure about something, do not hesitate to contact the nurse or doctor.

You should nurse your baby frequently. Keep in mind that the more you nurse, the more milk you will produce. Nursing 8 to 12 times a day would be ideal. Also, it is better to nurse whenever the baby appears to be hungry as opposed to doing it according to a strict schedule. Though breastfeeding is natural, it does not come easily to some women. If you are facing any problems in breastfeeding your baby, be sure to contact your nurse or doctor for assistance.
